I remember seeing a doco on spirulina being grown commercially in muddy
saline puddles by peasant women in Africa (possibly Ethiopia). As the
puddle dried-out, the spirulina crust was lifted off and sold for a few
cents for processing in the West.

On a similar topic does anyone have any ideas on how to grow
fairly-large quantities (but still backyard scale) of brine shrimp as
feed for aquaponic fish at the fry stage? Feeding them at this stage
seems a considerable barrier to raising carnivorous species in a cost
effective way: later stages can be fed or supplemented with farmed
worms, maggots etc.
Regards,
Scott
(Still working on my pithy permie sign-off at this stage)

Does anyone know of a good source for learning how to grow & prepare
algae for human consumption?
I don't have a particular kind in mind, but spirulina, chlorella &
blue-green are what I've read about
most frequently.

Thank you-
