HPBA Advocacy Alert!!!

H.R. 3928 - The Wood Stove Replacement Act of 2005

On September 28th, Rep. Tim Murphy (PA-18) and Rep. Melissa Hart (PA-4) introduced federal legislation to give a $500 tax credit for the changeout of an old, dirty burning wood stove.  The Wood Stove Replacement Act of 2005 (H.R. 3928) will allow consumers, living in areas designated as "non attainment" for fine particulate air quality standards (i.e., PM-10 and PM-2.5), to take the tax credit when they remove an old stove and replace it with an EPA-certified appliance.

CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES TODAY AND ASK THEM TO CO-SPONSOR H.R. 3928 - THE WOOD STOVE REPLACEMENT ACT OF 2005! Even if you live in an area not affected by particulate pollution, your lawmakers need to support this important bill to help reduce wood smoke from old stoves that gives clean woodburning everywhere a bad name.

You can use HPBA's online advocacy system to contact your lawmakers!  Visit www.capitolconnect.com/hpba [http://www.magnetmail1.net/ls.cfm?r=21618959&sid=714343&m=127320&u=HPBA&s=http://www.capitolconnect.com/hpba] and click on "Current Issues."  If you haven't yet used the system, you will be prompted for your address so that you can be accurately matched to your lawmakers.

The House Ways and Means Committee will be the first to address this bill and we encourage you to also contact all Committee members (http://waysandmeans.house.gov/members.asp?cong=17 [http://www.magnetmail1.net/ls.cfm?r=21618959&sid=714344&m=127320&u=HPBA&s=http://waysandmeans.house.gov/members.asp?cong=17]), particularly if you are a constituent, and ask them to move the measure as soon as possible.

Contact your lawmakers today! We can't do this without you.  Please contact Elizabeth Odina, odina@hpba.org [mailto:odina@hpba.org], or call (703) 522-0086, ext. 138 if you have questions or problems.
