"It’s Eleven O’Clock, Where Is Your Money and What Is It Doing?"

For those who care about the health of the planet and a sustainable future, the important question is, “Is
your money working for or against the future that you envision?”

The Permaculture Credit Union is a unique credit union chartered in 2000, (www.pcuonline.org) 1-866-954-3479 that is membership owned, and dedicated to the “Ethics of Permaculture”----Care of the Earth, Care of People, and Re-investment of surplus to benefit the Earth and it’s inhabitants. It is rated one of the ten best green banking and investing firms in the U.S. by Co-op America and the Social Investment Forum’s Community Investing Campaign in 2003. The Permaculture Credit Union has pioneered a Sustainable Loan Discount Program that covers home energy efficiency upgrades, loans for fuel efficient cars, mortgages for non-toxic, sustainable houses, solar installations, and permaculture landscapes. The credit union is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, but operates in California and all other states in the USA, and has 615 members and total assets of $2,546,000.

Permaculture (PERMAanent agriCULTURE, or CULTURE) is a design system for creating sustainable human environments. The word was coined by Australian biologist and author Bill Mollison in the late 1970's who sees "invisible structures" like member owned credit unions as a central element in the vision for a sustainable future that permaculture presents.

Don Sarich graduated from the University of Northwest with a Bachelor of Science, with dual majors of Business Administration and Accounting along, with minors in Finance and Economics. Sarich has been involved with the credit union movement for eleven years. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Northwest Indiana Chapter of Credit Unions. He is an Associate member of the Institute of Credit Union Executives, and was hired as full time President/CEO for the Permaculture Credit Union in March, 2003.
