Environmentalists listen up!

On Memorial Day Weekend some of the most exciting activists and thinkers in the environmental movement will be converging in Fairfield Iowa.   When you come I guarantee that you will not only learn from the best but also get totally pumped to make radical change in your community.

Our workshops and speakers cover every angle.

For those of you who are ready to get out and join the fight check out workshops and talks by:

-Tad Hargrave from Youth for Environmental Sanity www.yesworld.org .  Tad will help you get connected with the cause that burns in your heart and teach you the nitty gritty of organizing, fundraising and marketing.

-Mike Ewall from the Student Environmental Action Coalition www.seac.org .  Mike will teach Environmental Organizing 101, how to create, and maintain an environmental action organization and keep it powerful.

-Ronnie Cummins from the Organic Consumers Association www.organicconsumers.org . Ronnie will speak on the crisis of industrial agriculture and genetic engineering and the movement toward a sustainable future. Topics covered will include food safety, environmental sustainability, social justice, global marketplace trends, and global activism.

-Mark Companion from ocean arks www.oceanarks.org .  A colleague of the ever brilliant John Todd, the inventor of living machines.  Mark will take us through all the why's and how's of building a living machine. (go to www.oceanarks.org if you don't already know what a living machine is)

For those of you who still need some convincing or want to sharpen your wit for dealing with someone else who does, check out:

-John Ikerd, professor of agricultural economics at the University of Missouri http://hometown.aol.com/jeikerd , speak on how the modern chemical poison paradigm is destroying rural communities and how new approaches can repair the damage.

Steven M. Druker - "Why Genetic Engineering is Incompatible with Sustainable Agriculture"
This presentation explains the risks of genetically engineered (GE) foods as reported by the scientific staff of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Royal Society of Canada, the Public Health Association of Australia, and other eminent experts; and it discusses the extensive body of evidence indicating that genetic engineering tends to cause unintended and potentially harmful effects in the food-yielding organisms it reconfigures.

Phew!  I'm tired and we haven't even gotten on to the whole sections on Sustainable agriculture and Alternative energy yet or the fruit tree forest planting, edible flower workshop, bonfire at abundance eco-village, straw-bale buildings, bio-diesel production or Vedic architecture!  Go to the website and check it out for more info! http://www.eco-fair.org/events.htm

For those of you who just want to chill and meet awesome people come to the "eco-fashion show" or the ecological film festival and enjoy great food from local organic food producers.

I'm really excited to see you there.  Please feel free to contact me for more info charlesNO@SPAMgrowfood.org (remove NO SPAM though you know...)
