About the presentation...
In 2000 Sarah West did a 10 month study tour of eco-villages and
innovative on-site and decentralised sewerage systems in Europe and the
USA. The tour commenced with a month long Eco-village Training Course
at Findhorn in northern Scotland. Other European eco-villages
highlighted are from Sweden, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. In
2001 Sarah went on a similar dual study tour in New Zealand for 3 weeks,
and participated in the 2 week Eco-village Design Course at Crystal
Waters in Queensland.

This eco-village presentation distills information from all these
experiences that Sarah has had the privilege to participate in, and
highlights what others have found to make community living easier and
more satisfying.

Key aspects presented are:
* community vision and purpose
* community *glue*
* community organisational structure
* communication and decision-making processes
* economic basis
* entry and exit procedures
* innovative building styles
This will all be accompanied by lots of photos.
Sarah will also have handouts and a display of books and eco-village
touring guide books.
.
Come along to Djanbung Gardens at 74 Cecil Street, Nimbin
on Sunday 12 May. 3.30pm - after The Channon Markets
$5 per person
Come early for a guided tour of Jarlanbah starting from Djanbung at 2pm,

Jarlanbah was NSW first rural community title eco-village project,
described by NSW Dept of Planning as a leading example of 'best practice
ESD' and inspired the current North Coast Planning Guidelines for Rural
Settlement. Commenced in 1994, you can see permaculture design
applications for settlement planning, passive solar housing, innovative
waste treatment and other sustainable design features in practice.
Jarlanbah is right next door to Djanbung Gardens. To get to Djanbung,
from Nimbin's main street (Cullen St) turn into Cecil Street and continue
300m past showground to Neem Rd - entrance to carpark is first left in
Neem Road.
