Does anyone have suggestions about stabilizing a steep hillside made of
very fine shale rock. The slope is very steep in some places and there
are larger rocks embedded in the hillside. I've been terracing the
lower portion with swales that switchback to the base, watering the
troughs with drip irrigation, and placing mulch on top of this. There
had been a fire in 85 and the previous owner did nothing to stabilize
the area. I'm sure it has a great potential for a rich diversity of
plant life at some point. The only plants that are present are Yucca
and White Sage and their root systems are distressed in places due to
the loss of soil. I would appreciate any suggestions
