The closing of this paper discussion by Dr. Martin Birley's paper coincides
with the closing of the 1st session of the ICIBS. All conference materials
will be available in the future as a hyper-text proceedings
(http://www.ias.unu.edu/proceedings/icibs) at UNU/IAS web server.

On behalf of the Inst of Advanced Studies (UN Univ. Tokyo) and the UNESCO
Microbial Resources Centre (Stockholm), I like to thank Dr. Birley for a
very interesting interaction with the audience and for the information on
health-associated issues of waste recycling and utilisation, and disease
transmission due to mixed livestock populations in integrated bio-systems.
This is certainly an area where available information on health risks have
not been extended sufficiently to technologists and the IBS network
members. I hope that his paper discussion has set the beginning of more
information exchanges and participation of medical and veterinary doctors
through the mailing list for general forum on integrated biosystems
(ET-W1@segate.sunet.se). This list can also be used by participants to
continue discussion of topics raised by Birley's paper as well as topics
that the 12 papers have not discussed. To join the list, e-mail
listserv@segate.sunet.se and use the subscription command:

I also wish to thank the Tropix Photographic Library
(http://www.merseyworld.com/tropix/) for permission to use some of their
excellent pictures on the web. These pictures will be added to the
hyper-text proceedings of ICIBS. I presume that this permission will
automatically be extended to this web proceedings at UNU/IAS.

with best regards
Jacky Foo
