Henry,

Many thanks to you for the details about the other collections at Loyola-New Orleans and The University of Texas Harry Ransom Center. I didn't know about these. This is very helpful! I will also be sure to check out The Walker Percy Project.

Lauren,

I will definitely check out the "conciliatory principle." As for David Bohm, a communication scholar that I respect and admire (Corey Anton) teaches Bohm's On Dialogue, though, I haven't read it yet myself.

Thank you both!
Justin

Justin,

Thank you for introducing yourself to the list and for sharing information about your interesting dissertation topic.  Yours is a complex subject, for certain, and I wonder if Percy-1990 would not be inclined toward a ?Lost in the [Internet] Cosmos? approach.  As for a 2019 Percy, that is an intriguing idea to explore, especially when you consider how many ways language and its use have changed since the advent of the Internet.

If it proves of assistance, on The Walker Percy Project you can find descriptions of and links to the various Percy collections, including Loyola-New Orleans and The University of Texas Harry Ransom Center, alongside UNC-CH.  I believe the Loyola Collections are quite ripe for new and productive research, given that they contain a collection of materials donated to the library by the Percy family, as well as a collection provided from Patrick Samway, S.J., which includes his research related to his biography of Percy.

Best of luck with your valuable line of inquiry.

Dear Justin
I have looked over the Dr shoulders
And learned some mighty remarkable
Things about what it is to be a human
Being
What a surprise to nod ones head
In recognition to the ultimate search
He was ultimately a good diagnostician
And didn?t get too mad at us
He knew
We exist beside ourselves
We are onstage
We always enter thru a portal
Of our own making
The strategy each of us has one
We mostly eavesdrop and use second hand
Thoughts
Our aspirations
We don?t really enter into eachother
We bump along parallel
Although grace is always
Available
May I recommend his book
The Second Coming
The conciliatory principle of
Language is present and
Accounted for
Two people meet and hear and
Touch and notice eachother
And the world around them
They are for eachother and fir
The world
Language does that
It?s conciliates the unity
It?s the mechanism we have
To communicate with one another
Mostly we aren?t doing a very
Good job of that
Good luck
Read Dr David Bohm on Language
duality is the problem

We eavesdrop using second hand
Thoughts

The dissertation is in an early stage at the moment. While I'm still searching for the "question," as it were, in the least I'm wondering, "If Percy was alive today, given the electronic milieu, would he still use the novel as his medium of communication to convey his philosophical ideas?"
