"Bill Binnings," eh? Sounds an awful lot like a certain Percy protagonist...

I've been following this discussion for a while, so I may as well introduce myself:

Joe Francisco
New Jersey (near Princeton)
Future English teacher (hopefully high school)
Have read all of WP's works, and the Samway biography.
Went to WP Fest 2016 (and it was awesome).

Thank you for this discussion board! Hope to make some contributions in the future.

Dear Percy-L:

For those interested, you might enjoy reading this article about a second bronze statue of Percy that will soon be unveiled -- this one located in Covington where Percy lived for more than 40 years.

"Covington's White Linen night celebrates Walker Percy, raises money for public art fund,"
Times-Picayune, Sarah Bonnette, August 28, 2017

KEY ARTICLE QUOTES
The article presents information about The Covington Public Art Fund and its goal to establish a Percy statue and to celebrate the arts in Covington. Key quotes related to the statue and its conception found at the bottom of the article are as follows:

"The almost 9-by-4 foot sculpture designed and created by artist Bill Binnings will be placed permanently in Bogue Falaya Park in central Covington. Entitled 'Gateway,' it is intended to draw viewers into what was Percy's life as an award-winning writer…."

"'It was designed as a philosophical invitation into his world,'" Binnings said. As viewers step into the doorway, they "'pass into his world, and if you want to see the whole sculpture, you have to do that'…."

"The sculpture features a more than 7-foot tall Percy standing in a doorway. All of his book titles are incised into the bronze framework,... as is a quote from -'The Moviegoer.’"

Bill Binnings is the same sculptor who created the statue of Percy unveiled in May 2016 at St. Tammany Parish Library, Madisonville La., which was installed for the centennial of Percy's birth. Photographs and story about the statue are available at:
