There is no priest in Moviegoer. The other memorable priest in the Percy canon is the Percival (Parsifal), the listening ear in Lancelot, to whom the story is being told by the narrative voice; I can think of no other priests in any pf the other novels.Father Smith's Confession is the key to whole meaning of Thanatos. It is unimportant whether he is true to life or not as he serves as raisoneur for the novel. One could do an interesting monograph on Fr. Smith as being one of a long line of such wounded raisoneurs from the tradition of Graham Greene. He is kissing cousins to the Benjamin/Lazarus figure in Walter Miller Jr's Canticle For Leibowitz (one of Walker's favorite books).
