Interesting piece on slashdot on the whole semantic web thing
http://developers.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/07/27/0152211&tid=221

In particular an audio recording of a talk by Adam Bosworth
http://www.itconversations.com/shows/detail571.html

The basic thrust of the talk is how to get data (i.e. stuff with some structure, as opposed to structure-less webpages) on to the web. He proposes learning from what made html work, i.e. keep it dead simple,
and sloppy so that its easy for the average hacker to provide the info.

His solution is to go with RSS 2.0 and Atom, both of which are taking off at the moment.

Also see
http://www.adambosworth.net/archives/000041.html

As a side bar he talked about Amazons A9 search which now has an OpenSearch
RSS. This allows anyone to add their search into the A9 engine.

See http://opensearch.a9.com/

To register the PIW with A9 we'll need a webpage with something close to the following:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<OpenSearchDescription xmlns="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearchdescription/1.0/";>
<Url>http://www.permaculture.info/cgi-bin/eden?search={searchTerms}</Url>
<Format>http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearchrss/1.0/</Format>
<ShortName>Plants</ShortName>
<LongName>Permaculture Information Web Plants</LongName>
<Description>Search for useful plants at permaculture.info</Description>
<Tags>plants biology taxonomy</Tags>
<Image>http://www.permaculture.info/TODO64x64LOGO.gif</Image> <SampleSearch>nettle</SampleSearch>
<Developer>PIW Group</Developer>
<Contact>piw@pfaf.org</Contact>
<Attribution>PIW Group, Plants For A Future, Ken Fern. Creative Commons by/nc/sa license</Attribution>
<SyndicationRight>open</SyndicationRight>
<AdultContent>false</AdultContent>
</OpenSearchDescription>

An a 64 by 64 image for the logo. We also need an apropriate contact email.
