Hello,
I recently split our booming, larger hive- we took a few frames of brood, and 2-3 frames of nectar and pollen along with the nurse bees in those frames - and placed in a nuc. Despite looking for quite some time, we didn't spot our queen in our "mother" hive.
We are feeding the nuc and have placed a robbing gate on the front. The nuc was established this past Sunday. I am still freaked that we might have accidentally moved the queen or she got lost in the trauma the move.
I went into the nuc today and saw baby bees emerging and brood, but nothing resembling a popcorn cell. Should we now expect to see queen cells at the bottom of one of the nuc frames? How is a new queen created for this type of split? Shall we simply give the nuc more time?
I am not ready to give up yet and wanted the group's input.
Thanks,
Shadi Ana
