Buckwheat is rather prized but I'm not sure I'd call it tastier. Very strong flavor. Some people will pay top dollar for it. Definately an aquired taste.

Since sourwood pollen is prized and labeled by beekeepers, I assume that certain pollen sources are tastier, healthier or better than others. Is that assumption correct? What are the “best” pollen sources around here? Clover? Is goldenrod honey special?

Thanks, Walter.  Just trying to figure if I need to feed one of my hives.  I don’t like to disturb them too much (and I’m lazy).  About mid-August a hive started from a swarm in late spring was found starving and I gave them a gallon of sugar water and a couple medium frames of honey from another hive.  Was wondering if I should check on them but now that you say we are in the nectar flow already, I will wait.  I’m planning to check my three hives this weekend.

The Goldenrod is blooming like crazy around CH/Carrboro right now. Aster should also be blooming.

Hi All,

Can someone please refresh my memory when the fall nectar flow “typically” (if we can still use this term in the face of climate change) occurs and also what are the primary contributors of nectar.

Thanks!
