Hey Catherine,

Sounds like fun in your bee yard! I'm sure you have a queen given all the queen cells, but once they get capped they might be taking off. If they are thinking swarm its a tad to early, but i am sure the 80 degree temps we will be getting later this week will call the girls out. Its weird to see both and i have twice, but its best to "assume" the swarm is the objective. Mine were just sticking them where there was room. They stayed put.

Personally i'd have done a split and used one of the frames. If i recall you have a 3 deep TBH style? You can (if room) put in a nuc in the rear of that and have shared heat. This will keep the old queen away. Or just move momma back there and let her live w/ open space to lay and let the new comer take over. You may have to try the shook swarm technique to "trick" - hahaa them into thinking they have left. I just love saying that... trying to trick bees. :-)

Anyhoot, that's my 13.5 cents worth. keep us updated.

Hey all,

I have a question about how to deal with swarm cells. I have a hive that has both supercedure cells and swam cells. None of them are capped, and I can't tell if there are eggs in them. I am a little worries the hive may be queen less, because they are meaner then normal. I pulled the swam cells because the bees are downtown and I really don't want them to swarm. Should I have waited until they were capped to pull them? I have another hive with an uncapped swarm cell, but I haven't pulled it yet.

Thoughts?

Catherine
