Brad,

If you are lucky you'll need twice as many as you have, regardless of how many that is. Two or three per hive is a good number. I usually extract twice (mid May and then in June) in order to not have to keep twice as many supers.

Heading into my first honey season after our late start last spring, I am wondering how many supers I should have on hand - assembled and painted, for each of my two hives so I don't run out of space just when the gold is coming in by the bee-bucket load in April/May/June?

Thanks,

Brad Kosiba
