Hi Orange County Beekeepers,
Randall has forwarded this to me.  It is a great little opportunity.  If I don't hear from anyone by the end of the week, I will plan on doing this.
Let me know if you can do this and thanks,
David

Thanks so much for your enthusiastic response!  Our school is United Church Preschool on Martin Luther King Blvd. at Homestead Road in Chapel Hill.  Ideally, the best time for a presentation on beekeeping would be Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of the week beginning September 24th, because my class is learning about letter "B" of the alphabet that week.  Of course, we would not turn down a visit if it has to be another time!  We only meeting during morning hours, so the preferable time for a visitor is around 9:30 or 10:00 a.m.  Another option is around 11:00 or 11:30 a.m. (we dismiss at noon).

The desired length of time would be 15-20 minutes.  My class consists of 16 four-year-olds; if the younger class joined us, it would be an additional 12 kids (three-year-olds).  Please keep in mind that these are very young children, meaning that they have a limited vocabulary, relatively short attention span, and might be quite scared of live bees (I am, too!).  I hope this information is helpful and will not cause you to reconsider!  Please give me a call at 968-8754 if you'd like to talk further.  Thank you.  Sharon.

Sharon,

Yes, we've got folks who love to do school talks --- we are very big on community outreach and education! I'll pass this request along to our association president, David Langham, and he can solicit some help for you. Any details you have (location, desired dates, number of kids, desired length of time with the kids, etc.) would make it easier to match up your needs with appropriate people.

Hi.  I teach a morning preschool of 3- and 4-year-olds in Chapel Hill.  We are not allowed to make field trips, so I am trying to schedule resource people to visit the classroom this coming academic year.  I was wondering if anyone in the Orange County Beekeepers Association ever visits preschool classrooms (for free, of course!) to talk about bees and beekeeping.  Just asking!  If so, please e-mail me or call me at home at 968-8754.  Thanks.  Sharon Zegeer.
