David called the meeting to order and Gayle sent around a get well card for David Ambrose for everyone to sign.

The Golden Achievement Award was discussed and it was decided that we would not compete for the award.  Clubs doing well in Golden Achievement have a much larger membership than we do.

Please sign up for the Swarm Patrol list if you are interested.  We are also getting requests for bee talks so please let David know if you are available to do this sometime.

Pat Jones encourages everyone to sign up for the zoo weekends.  We have a new and better spot so come and talk with people about your bees.

The State Meeting was discussed.

Virginia Webb is getting together a petition to define”Honey” as honey without additives.  Please sign if you are interested.

CCD was also discussed at the state meeting.

Signs are:  the adult population gone with no dead bees and perhaps a fistful of young bees and the queen.  There are no signs of robbing or wax moths.  Losses range from 30-90%.

Varroa mite counts are high with no tracheal mite infestation.  There were no viral problems detected.

Uncommon factors were treatments for varroa mites, etc. or feeding practices.

Unlikely causes are: poisons, new strain of nosema, or migratory beekeeping practices.

PLEASE take the survey at:  www.beesurvey.com

They are trying to get a national database together to help identify what is causing CCD.

For details about the study go to http://maarec.cas.psu.edu/index.html

Some recommendations were to feed Fumadil B to prevent nosema in the fall.  Be sure to air out old equipment and do not use it if you suspect CCD and TAKE THE SURVEY!

We then had our four panelists, Will Hicks, Happi Overton, William McKee, and Randall Austin come to the front and had a great question and answer session on their experiences with various aspects of beekeeping.
