If you hold the frame horizontal and shake up an down vigorously, if no honey comes out, it is mature enough to be extracted, capped or not. The problem with extracting "green" honey is the moisture content. If too high it will ferment. You can measure water content with a refractometer. About all you can do with "green" honey is mix it with really thick honey or cream it. Why don't you leave those frames on the hive for winter stores? Tom Wright |
