I planted some flowering quince (unknown variety from latvia) from seed four years ago. The plants survived near total neglect and last year produced fruit for the first time-- not a lot, around a quart from five plants. The fruit is sour, with a perfumey taste, and macerated with honey makes a great winter tonic/ vitamin pill. Flowering quince has lots of traditional medicinal uses-- used in Latvia, Russia, China, Japan. The flowers are gorgeous. They are worth growing for the flowers alone. I don't have any extra seeds or plants this year but I think you can get them at Raintree and that other northwest nursery whose name escapes my mind.

Anyone have any flowering (and fruiting) quince (chaenomeles)
recommendations on varieties and sources? Are they productive enough to
make worthwhile growing?
