It looks similar to Golden Russet. Golden Russet is very good in flavor. It
is one of our favorites for drying. I grew Swaar in SW Iowa for awhile. It
was more yellow in color than Golden Russet. I found that it was mealy and
had very little flavor. It would hold on the tree for a long time but even
the birds didn't like it. It was rated highly in "Apples of New York" by
S.A. Beach but that must have been for its locality of the Hudson River. I
cut the tree out as it was mediocre at best.

I am trying to identify an apple that we found at the Seed Savers orchard in
Iowa.

It was labeled "Swaar," but looks nothing like the other apple in their
orchard with the same name tag. That apple matches up with images and
descriptions of 'Swaar.'

This one is is a small brown russet that is rather flat (short from top to
bottom). Some were almost donut shaped and some rather lumpy.

It was our favorite in taste testing.

Can anyone help?

If the photo doesn't come through I could send it directly to a private
email.
