A few years back at an annual meeting in Ohio a speaker, don't remember
who, said the reason Johnny Appleseed planted so many apple orchards was
because in some states land was being given away at no cost or nearly so. But
one
had to do something with that land you couldn't just hold it. So Johnny
would get a parcel, and plant apple trees. If authorities checked, he was
fulfilling that requirement.

That isn't to take away from Johnny. He was an apple authority and went
around the country helping folks and propagated popular varieties by
grafting.
And, I'd bet he enjoyed some sparkling (fermenting) apple cider too.

For those with the following American persimmon varieties, do these ripen fu=
lly (w/out residual astringency)? - and if so, where are you growing them (z=
one, etc.).
