If you live in the boonies, use a 22 rifle with a scope.

If you have neighbors less than half a mile, use a shotgun....... no scope
needed!

410 gauge, full choke, #6 shot

Wait until you spook one from a tree and shoot it as it flies away.
Nobody wants shot pellets in the apples.

FYI
A 410 is a smaller shotgun, but great for birds.
Full choke means a relatively tight shot pattern.
#6 shot is the pellet size of the BBs in the shell; 6 being excellent for
birds.
This gun will not hurt to shoot. It's easy.
A single-shot model, used.... around $100.
