In reference to chemistry in the garden, you might like to look at:

http://www.soilminerals.com/

or, more specifically:

http://www.soilminerals.com/Ideal_Soil_Main_Page.htm

The author, Michael Astera, draws upon the pioneering work of soil scientists
like William Albrecht, Firman Bear, Carey Reams, and others in determining
not just what soil mineral balance makes for prosperous plants, but brings to
bear the healthiest, most nutritionally complete and complex food crops.

I have received a deeper understanding by reading much of the material on
this website and I have seen his book, which makes fairly complicated science
accessible and comprehensible to the layman.

On another subject (I'm too lazy to start another email with a different
subject(, does anyone know of a book about chemistry in the garden that is
targeted towards people who've never taken chemistry before? There are so
many times where I think that an understanding of chemistry would help me
garden better but chemistry books tend to talk about it in the abstract.
There's one book called "Chemistry in the Garden" and I've ordered it.
However, I suspect it will be for people who are already familiar with
chemistry concepts. Chemistry was not among the science classes I took in
school.
