Naomi,
Several members of Southern Fruit Fellowship have spoken of grafting
commercial blueberry cultivars onto native blueberry rootstocks that
grow in their region. In this way they grew blueberries in alkaline,
or at least neutral soil.

I don't remember who did this, so perhaps someone can help.

The Vaccinium genus is widespread throughout North America so there
could be native plants adapted to your soil. I'd check with Dan
Barney, Extension fruit specialist at Sand Point Research Station, U.
of Idaho. He'd likely advise how to grow blueberries in your soil, or
how to find rootstocks that are alkaline tolerant. He's worked with a
number of huckleberries native to your region.

Headed soon to pick wild blueberries in the southern appalachians at
5000 ft, where the 'June'berries ripen in August.
