I think letters from Americans would remind them that this has worldwide consequences, and people in other nations are aware of the recommendations.

The following is something NAFEX should know about - the possible loss of the fruit collections at Brogdale in England, which are the largest in the world. I had to remove the attachments, but they can be viewed at the website listed in the letter. Not sure if anyone there will listen to Americans, but it couldn't hurt to send letters anyway.

URGENT
Within the last few weeks, DEFRA has published two reports on the future of the National Fruit Collection at Brogdale. Their recommendations include the gradual replacement of the living tree collection by deep frozen material. Comments on the proposals are invited and should be sent to Emma Hennessey.

Email: emma.hennessey@defra.gsi.gov.uk
Or by post to Area 4B, Nobel House, 17 Smith Square, London, SW1P  3JR
Comments should be in by March 15th
I have attached the reports, but in the event of a problem opening them they can be down loaded from www.defra.gov.uk: Project Report: GCO137STF

The attached comments by S.C.Clark  endorsed by the NOF team, are being submitted to DEFRA  as the response of the Northern Fruit Group (NFG),  and are for information  and  endorsement by other groups/individuals if they are in agreement. Your own comments may be added or separate comments made, sending them direct to Defra. We would of course be interested to hear your views also.
