Hello NAFEXers -

We have finally gotten settled into a new house. I've had some heirloom
apple grafts in pots which are now 2 years old. I'm preparing a bed and
wire trellis to create an espalier in the back yard. The trellis runs
east-west and is in full sun most or all of the day.

I've got 2 questions.

- The grafts are on M7 rootstock. About how far apart should they be
planted in an espalier?

- One of the trees -- Kinnaird's Choice -- had spent the summer in
partial shade and did fine, but went into dormancy fairly early. Now
that I've got the pots in their new location and we're having a warm
spell, it is breaking bud and starting to leaf out. Should I try to
retard this by putting it in the garage until the weather cools again?
Or just let things take their course and hope it returns to dormancy
after a short leafing season?

I'm in Hendersonville, NC, Zone 7. Many thanks in advance for your
advice.

Thomas
