Heron,

I'm missing the start of this thread, but I have a description of the Jewett's
Fine Red apple (from Martin Crawford's Directory of Apple Cultivars).

medium, deep crimson, striped red, bloomy; flesh: crisp, flavour quite rich,
good;
tree: high vigour, spreading, bears young; origin NH. Ripens late Sept (in
England), stores until November only, blooms Day 10 (early-mid).

Note: Crawford's info is not always correct especially about N Am varieties.
