I planted a 'Stanley' plum years about 7 years ago. I purchased it
from a local nursery in Aurora. This tree has produced fruit most
years but it is one of the most insipid plums I have ever eaten. In
fact, we have not even bothered harvesting the plums the last two
seasons. The fruit fits the physical description of 'Stanley' plums
(purple italian prune plum with yellow meat) but none of the flavor
descriptions. I have been tempted to cut the tree down but my wife
reminds me of the shade that it gives the house and patio and politely
requests I think again. I am wondering did I get a mislabeled tree,
or perhaps is there another reason the fruit is so bland. Is there
perhaps something I can do to improve the sugar content in the fruit?
I welcome any suggestions although I make no promises on whether I
will carry out the suggestion(s) or not. Thank you.
