Gord-- I have had success with Harcot apricot here in
Zone 5 (Massachusetts). Great flavor. Hardy. Supposed
to be disease resistant. I had no problems with
disease, but did have a problem with woodchucks
(burrowed under a 7 year old bearing tree, ate roots,
and killed it). The Harcot only bore when grafted with
a pollinator variety (Goldcot--which seems to produce
abundant pollen, but is far inferior to Harcot,
flavor-wise). I would also try any of the other
Canadian Har-varieties--e.g. Hargrand, Harlayne, etc.
Some sources say they aren't hardy in Zone 5 but the
Harcot worked for me. (Wilson Delicious, which Stark's
claimed was hardy in Zone 5, perished after the winter
of '92-3--a winter that was mild until March, then a
deluge of snow.) There are hardier apricots, but
they're not known for flavor.

My neighbour is growing flowers for the florist trade. She installed a
floodlight with motion detector last year &, for the first time, got a crop
of early tulips. However, by the time the late ones were ready to bloom, the
deer had gotten used to the light and ate them all.
We have a kennel with sometimes up to 20 dogs. Indoor/outdoor runs with
doors that bang when the dogs go in or out. The local deer herd don't even
raise their heads from grazing when all the dogs sound off. They get used to
anything.
