Report from Wake, VA.  High today of 55 and low tonight of 45 and no wind for a change.

My plums and one plum cot are in full bloom.  I get one crop in four due to late frost.

The peaches are about 4 to 5 days from full bloom.  Late frosts do not seem to hurt the peaches.

Most of the apples are in bud swell as is my one pear.

I applied my first spray (neem oil) late this afternoon.  Due to equipment problems and weather I am about 3 weeks late with my spray program.  I hope that I am not too late to stop the brown rot in the peaches.  Any suggestions/ideas that anyone has on that problem would be greatly appreciated.

A note of caution to neem oil users - make sure to flush your tanks and flush out the sprayer head as it appears that neem oil will eat brass and some rubber products.  Come to think of it that is good advice for any of the sprays you use in your sprayer.

I finally purchased a good tractor (mostly for mowing) that has a ROPS installed.  (Roll Over Protection Structure).  I learned the hard way not to go under a peach tree with it.  The ROPS - along with a seat belt is designed to save your life in case your tractor turns over.  If you do not use the seat belt the ROPS is useless and will probably crush you.  Just one more safety device that if not used properly will cause more harm then good.
