I picked and ate(?) about a gallon of hawthorn berries, picked off a
productive tree at the TN Welcome Center on I-24, in December 2000, on my
way south to AL. Can't say that they were especially tasty, but I wanted
the seeds to grow out for rootstock purposes.
Richard Fahey, of the Christian Homesteading Movement, in Oxford, NY, who
is the NAFEX Apples Interest Group chairman, has a 'Cherry' hawthorn - I
think he had a write-up on it in POMONA within the last 2 years. Can't
recall much about it at this moment, but you might peruse back copies and
look for details. I think Richard offers scions and seeds from his selection.

I've got a few mayhaw selections grafted & growing here in southern
KY. Don't know yet how well, if at all , they'll perform - this is their
first winter in the frigid north.
