BOSTON — The Coast Guard and partner agencies are responding to a missing person in the water in Half Moon Cove, Maine Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after noon, Coast Guard Station Eastport watchstanders received a phone call of a canoe with three people aboard capsized in Half Moon Cove.  Two of the individuals swam to shore and made the call to the Coast Guard Station. The third person, a 23-year-old man, has not been seen since.

A 29-foot response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Eastport launched immediately to search the area.

Joining them was a HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed wing aircraft crew and a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod.

In addition to the Coast Guard assets, Pleasant Point Police Department and Perry Fire Department conducted land searches along the shore. Maine Marine patrol also launched a boat to search.

"We have excellent partnerships with both state and local agencies in Maine," said Lt. John O. Mansolillo, the command duty officer at the Coast Guard First District command center. "Combined and coordinated, we were able to search the entire cove and its perimeter before nightfall."

The 29-foot response boat is scheduled to search throughout the night.
