Well, neighbors...the good news is PRUDENT AND RESPONSIBLE people are doing the right thing!

For those who transport take heed.  Another breed association announces cancellations of  their events due to the Western states EHV-1 situation rotating around the Utah Cutting Champion show event and given the areas the horses transport from..

If your moving them out, give your vet a shout!

The recommendation is to isolate sick horses...AND keep them away from other horses if the animal is showing signs of illness... keep things sanatairy.

The virus effects ALL EQUINES and causes abortion so prober handlignof the placenta and dead fetus is important.

The disease poses no threat to people, but symptoms in horses can include fever at 101.5 or higher, sneezing, slobbering and other mild symptoms. Serious cases of the disease are rare, but can include staggering, hind-end paralysis and even death of the horse.   Repeating  smptoms also include abortions in broodmares

The bad news is  NONE of the vaccines are  effective for ehv-1
