Barry, I share your Heavy Sigh.

New nightlight technology has been developed over the past few years and
provides red or green lamination that aids in the detections of clues. A
person searching for clues at night without a light source may be able to
follow a trail but they will never find clue without some kind of light
source or night vision optics. I use a small red LED flood light that is
attached to my helmet when searching at night. I keep a similar second LED
light that has both a red and white light switch that I keep in my pack. My
helmet mounted light provides a continuous light source for 18 hours on
fresh batteries.

Heavy Sigh, Its just this type of info that gets people in trouble. Take
a light source, two is better. We are looking for clues and lost folks. If
we could fire flares I would do it. Wondering around in the dark will just
get you trouble. Possibly endangering yourself and others. People are lost,
we are not sneaking around trying to be undetected. I have had people call
out when seeing the lights of a search party. While I have worked without
lights I have found that on a dark night in the forest it becomes black as a
tunnel and no amount of "Night Vision" will help you. But that's my opinion.
