The only qualification a mount needs: Does it assist the searcher to find the subject? If the answer is yes and the rider has a successful working relationship, the horse works.  If the horse is not sound or dangerous to others it doesn’t.

Absolutely, even if it was completely blind IF ridden by a highly talented and trained rider.
It might even be more effective in the field as it relies on it's other natural senses to "see".

Look at John Lyons late mount, Zip.
That horse could perform like a circus animal and was totally blind.
