Chris, Thank you so much for the time spent and the education on the Morgan.., I think I know which direction we will head in.., I believe it was a Morgan they were using at the medieval fair and giving children rides, of course my Goddaughter was in line several times until she rode each one twice.  It required us to mount from a picnic table and of course she had to have her Godmother go with her, other then walking funny when we dismounted because of their width, it was an experience she still talks about and she has rode many a horse.  I will visit your site and start saving now.

Thank you again.

Dj

LOL  Well, that's partially right! The Morgan breed standard is actually 14'1" to 15'1"- with individuals over and under that. Morgans do tend to be very solid and big bodied which makes them look bigger then they are. Then there is the Morgan sense of self- ask any of them and they'll tell you they are biggest horses in the world! As to gentle- yes, part of the what makes the breed adored by their fans is that they are very bonded to their people and thus very gentle when required. They can put on a show with the best of them but then in the next instant walk on eggshells with a baby on their back. Once they love they give their hearts forever. Generally they are smart enough to know what is needed when. There are exceptions to every rule of course! My main MSAR gelding was a successful show horse, can really lift his hocks, flag his tail- and move out, does his SAR work with a passion, and totally melts if there are babies around. I mean marshmallow horse! They could do anything to him and he'd never move a muscle!

We have several horses in foster right now that are smaller and might be what you are looking for. Take a look at www.forevermorgans.org and see if anyone strikes your fancy. We have a few that aren't on there yet and I'll ask the group for recommendations too.

Good luck finding the right horse,

Thank you Chris.., I have a Goddaughter and I purchased her a mare a couple years ago but the mare is a pony and 18 now and very stuck in her way.., which does not give good safety for my 5 year old Goddaughter…, I realize a Morgan is a very large animal but I’ve always noticed they are more gentle.., is this true?
