On August 9, 2009, at 1000 hours, the TROTSAR Mounted Team will be conducting Horse Trailer Training for MSAR personnel.  The Howard County Police Department (Howard County, MD) will be presenting a presentation on State and (Federal) DOT regulations that apply to horse trailers in (or going through) the state of Maryland.  After the HCPD presentation there will be a 4-station practice cone course set up for attendees to fine tune their trailer turning/backing skills and a (voluntary) courtesy trailer inspection.  The course is designed for all street legal horse trailers (GN or BP) under 26,000 CGW and is based on 12” lanes of travel and 24’ width roadways, so the course will accommodate all street legal horse trailers and vehicles under 26,000 GVW.

That afternoon the cone course will be re-measured and turned into a 4-station Horse Trailer Rodeo Course; 1) 3-point turn, 2) back 200 feet, 3) rotary turn with back-in block to the right and 4) 90 degree back in block to the left.  All MSAR teams within the mid-Atlantic region are welcome to attend and are asked to RSVP by August 2nd.  Guest teams will need to provide proof of their SAR Team’s liability insurance in order to attend.  Due to the projected heat and sun for that weekend no horses will be allowed to remain in trailers while on the training site, so give your mounts the day off.  The winner of the rodeo will receive a prize.  The winning MSAR rig/driver will be based upon the least amount of traffic cones touched/hit and then with the fastest time. Maximum course speed is 10mph.
