Another contact for slings: Mr. Paul Keating, Chairman

Liftex Corp.

443 Ivyland Road

Warminster, PA 18974

They made the sling for Barabaro.

Both the Anderson and the Liftex are designed to support an injured horse totally of the ground.  The Anderson includes a neck and head support as well. They are also extremely expensive and may not be used very frequently by volunteer services.  The few times a horse has had to be lifted by crane around here wide canvas cargo slings

with a strongback (a bar that keeps the slings separated at the hook) in between were used.  These can be purpose bought or made from old double jacket fire hose by sewing loops in the ends.  Three inch ID or larger is recommended but do not use the fiber reinforced plastic 5 inch ID as it is not strong enough.  Most volunteer fire companies have stacks of condemned hose in roughly 50 foot lengths.  We have some and are looking for a sewing machine that can handle the job due to the Neoprene liner.
