Congratulations to all of you who experienced a positive outcome during your search efforts.  Our unit enjoyed the same outcome recently, when a 36 yr old mentally challenged woman was flushed out of the woods given our efforts, and found my the participating SWAT team.

Lost Hiker Found

Missing hiker Barbara Freund, 81 of Carroll Valley, PA was found by a
Mid-Atlantic search and rescue air scent dog team at approximately
midnight on the morning of August 6, in Owens Creek near Route 550 east
of Thurmont, MD.  Despite being lost for 34 hours and suffering minor
mobility impairments Ms. Freund was conscious and responsive at the time
she was located at approximately 1/4 mile from her last known location.
She was transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital where she is in
stable condition.

Over 100 searchers from Catoctin Mountain Park and six other National
Parks; five volunteer SAR organizations and teams from Maryland State
Police, Maryland Natural Resources Police, and Maryland State Park
Service, during this 34 hour coordinated search effort to find Ms.
Freund.  Search efforts were hampered by extremely steep and rocky
terrain with dense vegetation.

All roads in the Park have been reopened to normal traffic at this time.
