To attend the mock search near Pagosa Springs in Colorado this
weekend, MSAR folks in New Mexico need 3 documents for a horse:

1. Certificate of veterinary inspection, also known as a health
certificate, from a veterinarian in the horse's home state,
within a few days of departure.
2. Negative test for EIA, also known as a Coggins test, within
the past 12 months. This test requires a blood draw usually
at least 2 weeks before the veterinary inspection, but you
may be able to pay for rush laboratory service in order to
get the test results sooner. The test results must be shown
on the certificate of veterinary inspection.
3. Transportation permit, from a NM State Livestock Inspector.
This permit is valid as long as you own the horse.

Many other states have similar requirements. For summaries of
each state's requirements, see http://www.aphis.usda.gov/vs/sregs/

So, my question is: does anyone here routinely get called out
for MSAR missions across state lines? And, if so, do you have
a standing arrangement to get a certificate of veterinary
inspection while en route to the mission?

Thanks,

Una Smith
