I've grown lots of melons over the years, including the asian types. They seem like other melons. Charantais melons are best picked before slipping. Honeydews as well. The best time to pick can be a factor of environment and age of plants. They may slip better as the plants get older. I'd focus on when quality is best for eating and selling and pick then. You may have to eat a few to be sure. Bummer.

For several years we have happily grown Sun Jewel Asian melons. We like the earliness and the diversity it brings to our fruit offerings. This year it seems we need to cut them from the vines - can't wait till they slip. Deep in the past we had the same problem, but in recent years they slipped nicely. has anyone else had this situation?
Does anyone know of environmental factors that affect whether melons slip when ripe or not? This year we've had cooler, wetter weather than average, with a hotter than average week in mid-July. (I've stopped talking about "normal" weather.)
