The thing that blows my mind is that, in the feed industry, corn gluten meal is used by the truckload as a feed ingredient. Current price looks like about $550-$600/ton as of today, per

I can't imagine that there aren't enterprising folks bagging off some CGM for the horticultural trade at prices a lot lower than $1600/ton, but then maybe they're just charging what the market will bear. I'd tend to make friends with a local ag dealer and see what I could work out before buying much of the high-priced stuff.

Quoting the Fedco catalog  " Corn Gluten (10% N) Works as a pre-emergent weeds like dandelions, pigweed, and crabgrass by inhibiting root formation. Not recommended for use on existing weeds as the thigh nitrogen content makes it very effective fertilizer for leaf growth. Moisture is necessary for activation but too much moisture reduces effectiveness. Can be used in gardens for weed control once the desired plants are well established seedlings. A good practice would be manual cultivation followed by an application of corn gluten."

I know when it is used on lawns to kill broadleaf weds it takes a few years to fully control them. Hope this helps.
