My understanding is that Jerome Rodale initially named the magazine Organic
Farming and Gardening, but after some period of time switched it to Organic
Gardening and Farming because the emphasis needed to be on where the
customers came from and gardeners outnumbered the farmers many times over:)

Then later on they spun off The New Farm and left OGF as OG. Unfortunately
right about the time that we were preparing to go back into farming in 1995,
The New Farm was discontinued due to not being economically viable. Which
says a lot about the state of agriculture!!! I was very surprised and
disappointed as I was planning to use The New Farm as a guide.

As it turned out, it is probably for the better that we did not since
sustainability first comes from the basic economic issues and many of these
publications tend to be weak in that regard. But having an on-line version
may be viable for them and that may explain why they did not let Craig
Cramer (former editor) have the rights to the name when he set up an
alternative for New Farm. Unfortunately he could not devote that much time
to his on-line magazine either so it was very static.

The one thing I note though, is that the articles do seem to have many of
the SAME people who already publish or are quoted in many other sources so
it may be more of a compendium or central source for this kind of
information.

Sincerely,
