This is certainly true, but not so easy to change, we know from experience.
Most market growers do not have the time to start a new market. And, it's
scary - it may take literally years for the new market to catch on, and
until then, those brave farmers participating will have a significant loss
of income. Then, in our state, peddling is officially sanctioned by the
folks at the land grant college - even talk about it in their brochure on
farmers' markets as a desirable way to get crowds into the market. Peddlers
are the bane of a good farmers' market, but they are difficult to impossible
to get rid of. For anyone starting a new market, make it a growers only
market from the beginning - it's the only way.
