Allan's question brings up an interesting topic - planting for your market. I've long contended that different marketing schemes require different croping patterns. My cropping was different when my market mix was dominated by multiple farmers markets and restaurants than when it was dominated by the CSA.

If you have apprentices and/or work shares you may be better able to absorb the extra labor of crops who's picking requires handling individual small pieces multiple times. On the other hand, maybe you trade with a tomato specialist for something you do well, like melons, and both farms prosper.
