Bob's post reminded me of a propagation table a friend uses in his green
house. He
built a plywood table with a low rim, put down some pipe warming tape (the
more
expensive type with a thermostat) and covered it with pea gravel. This would
cost less
than a set of mats and thermostat.
Another grower (with lots of money) built a large table and used radiant
floor plastic
tubing, covered with gravel and hooked to a propane water heater and
circulating pump.
Might be more costly, but not if you figure cost per flat capacity of this
vs. prop.
mats & thermostats.
It all depends on what scale you are and plan to grow to. Or if you're
planning on
diversifying into selling plant starts to use the capacity of a system beyond
present
needs.
