The SBIR/STTR Alerting Service is a free service that provides bi-weekly
notification of SBIR and STTR solicitation announcements, news and
information, and Internet resources relevant to the SBIR/STTR programs.
This service is provided by the Economic Development Office of Pacific
Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL).

Back issues of the SBIR Alert are available on the World Wide Web. To
access these issues, connect to the site below, enter your email address (a
password is not needed to connect), select 'connect' then 'read messages.'
A keyword search is also available if you wish to search for issues
containing a particular subject or topic of interest.

-- NSF FY2000 SBIR/STTR Phase I solicitation deadline reminder

If you are planning on submitting a proposal for the National Science
Foundation (NSF) FY2000 SBIR/STTR Phase I solicitation, remember that the
closing date for the Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Systems and
Information-Based Technologies topics is June 8, 2000.

Before you submit, it is recommended that you review the following
information, as found in the proposal:

- Full electronic submission via NSF FastLane is required. Instructions
provided at

-- USDA FY 2001 SBIR Program Solicitation release delayed

The Department of Agriculture FY 2001 SBIR Program Solicitation was
originally scheduled to be released June 1, 2000, however the following
announcement was recently posted on the USDA SBIR web site
(http://www.reeusda.gov/sbir/):

NOTE: There has been a delay in the release of the Fiscal Year 2001 USDA
SBIR Program Solicitation. We anticipate that it will open by mid-June.
The closing date remains August 31, 2000. Please refer to the FY 2000 USDA
SBIR Program Solicitation (listed below) for information on the program.
Topic areas and basic program guidelines will remain the same for FY 2001.
Once the solicitation is released, it will be posted at this web site.

If you are interested in submitting a proposal, it may be useful to review
the recommended USDA SBIR Phase I grant awards for fiscal year 2000, which
also were recently posted on the USDA SBIR web site. The information
provided includes proposal number, principal investigator, company,
address, phone/fax numbers, award amount/duration, and project title. The
awards are listed by topic area. Abstracts of the awarded projects will be
posted at a later time, however, Phase I and Phase II technical abstracts
from FY 1996 to 1999 are available.

-- Proposal Writing Tools: SBIR CD-ROM recently released

The following announcement was recently posted on the Project SBIR West web
site (http://www.sbir.dsu.edu/):

The Small Business High Technology Institute has just completed a CD-ROM
containing eighteen winning SBIR Phase I and II proposals. The CD-ROM
contains 10 Phase I and 8 Phase II proposals along with background
information on the SBIR program, proposal preparation hints, and other
information that will help you to prepare a winning SBIR proposal. This is
the largest collection of successful SBIR proposals available.

The Winning SBIR Proposals CD-ROM is available from the Small Business High
Technology Institute for:

$30 per CD - 1 to 9 CDs
$20 per CD - 10 to 50 CDs
$10 per CD - over 50 CDs

The price includes shipping and handling. Multiple copies of the CD-ROM
may be purchased for distribution at SBIR proposal preparation or other
SBIR activities as part of the registration fee. To order call the Small

NATIONAL

National SBIR Fall Conference, Seattle, WA, October 30, 2000. The National
Science Foundation, in association with the Dept. of Defense and the Small
Business Admin., is sponsoring the fall National SBIR Conference to be held
in Seattle Washington. Program Managers and representatives from
participating agencies will provide insight into how to work with their
respective agencies and answer your own special questions during the

Phase II Proposal Preparation Workshop, Atlanta, Georgia, June 9, 2000.

service providers who are assisting clients with Phase II issues. For more

2nd Annual NIH SBIR/STTR Conference, Bethesda, MD, July 11-12, 2000.
