It's true. HB 1180 would effectively deregulate phone service in the state.

Rep. Bill Faison's consumer protection language was stripped from HB 1180 immediately after leaving his committee, after allegedly being agreed to by the telecom industry. The telecom industry allegedly lied to Faison.

The good news is that Faison's committee is due to get HB 1252 and then Faison will get some payback.

Please let your legislators know that these bills all need to be killed. Thanks!

Immediate Action Item - Please oppose HB 1180, HB 1252 and SB 1004

HB 1180 has passed in the NC House by a vote of 102 to 11. This bill is entitled "Consumer Choice and Investment Act of 2009" but the title is a sham. It's really about removing regulatory protection for landline telephone service.
