Yeah, I'm still lurking, just trying my best not to have to drive anywhere.

I saw a news short on WRAL.com today reporting only HI and DC's gas is priced higher than in NC.  I called AG Roy Cooper's office, and spoke with his secretary who allowed me to send her an email to share with the AG.  I got this reply back from another of his staff.

In case you were not aware, 39 states have opened inquiries about gas prices that do not seem to align with supply and demand.  I was aware the NJ AG has already filed a lawsuit against the major oil companies, but did not know about the other states.

I think AG Cooper isn't doing enough.  You can investigate until the cows come home, and still not resolve anything.  I'd like to see more action.

Wendy Chipman's email address is below if anyone would like to weigh in with the AG's office.

Dear Consumer:

Your email regarding the pricing of motor fuel has been forwarded to me for response.  Attorney General Roy Cooper shares your concern about high gas prices.  He has joined 39 other Attorneys General in a multi-state inquiry of the gas/oil industry.  In addition, our office is looking into price gouging complaints we have received from throughout the state, including complaints about even higher prices in the Triangle area.  Finally, Mr. Cooper has written the chair of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) urging the FTC also to look into the spike in gas prices.

In the meantime, please see the links below to websites that track local retail prices.  We encourage you to reward those businesses that are charging low prices and remember those that are not.

Thank you for contacting our office regarding your concerns.

Sincerely,

Wendy Chipman
