How the State of NC is Selecting IT Projects: Individual Approval Moving
Toward Portfolio Management
Speaker: Mr. Jonathan Womer, Assistant State Budget Officer for Information
Technology
Recent NC State legislation significantly changed the ways that state
government does planning, budgeting, reviewing and selecting of IT projects.
As a result a new process is evolving to manage the approval and funding for
large IT projects. This initiative makes use of Portfolio Management
software to improve project management discipline and determine the optimal
mix of IT investments. In this way, North Carolina seeks to improve IT
business value, improve budget and resource utilization.
Attendees will learn the following:
The importance of portfolio management in large IT projects in:
Proving IT value to business operations
Optimizing scarce resources
Improving accountability and regulative compliance
The NC State government major initiative to change the way it selects and
manages IT projects including:
Objectives for the initiative
How the review process has evolved in NC State Government
